Pediatrician, MD
Currently practicing at TBD
I am so excited to be practicing pediatrics back home in British Columbia! I was originally born in Winnipeg, but am so glad my family chose the west coast to move to when I was only one. I completed my undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University in Health Sciences, before heading out of the country for medical school and residency. I attended medical school in the Caribbean, and finished my clinical rotations all around the United States. I then completed my pediatric residency in Michigan and most recently practiced as the lead pediatrician in an outpatient setting for the past 5 years in rural Indiana through Indiana University Health. I have recently returned home to the lower mainland and am so honored to be able to provide care to the children and families here in Canada. My interest in pediatrics began as an adolescent when I too needed the care of pediatricians through BC Children’s Hospital. It was because of their care that I realized how important a truly caring pediatrician is, and how true partnership between families and their doctors can influence a child for years to come. I love getting to help kids reach their full potential with a foundation of good health encompassing one’s mind and body. When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband, our two young kiddos and our sassy corgi dog. We love trying new recipes, seeing new places and I love reading a good thriller novel. Thank you for entrusting me with your child’s care!
Pediatric Care
Dr. Chan is honoured to be taking care of your child and does not take the trust you have put in her lightly. It is our goal as a team always to provide through and comforting care during your appointment.
We know that the system is overwhelmed and busy, and that you want your referral responded to in a timely manner. Please rest assured that once your primary care provider sends a referral to our office, it is triaged by one of our team members.
Triage ensures that all patients are seen when medically required based on the reason for referral, and may offer a time period for your primary care provider’s management to take effect. Triage does not mean waitlisted, but rather seen in accordance of acuity and medical need.
If the urgency of your child’s referral has changed, please contact your referring physician and have them send an update to the referral so that we can help expedite your child’s care.
New consultations
These visits will typically be in office but may be virtual if the team considers it appropriate. During the appointment we will review your child’s medical history, symptoms and a physical exam will be completed. You will leave the appointment with a review of the assessment, management and follow-up plans.
Follow-up appointments
These appointments are offered in person or virtually as needed. It is of upmost importance that patients continue to have ongoing care with their primary care providers whom we can be in touch with when necessary. Our consultation notes will always be provided to them.
Patients MUST attend appointments
In-keeping with the guidelines of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and our office policy your child/ adolescent must be present for ALL appointments, regardless of being virtual or in person. Appointments not attended by the patient, even if their parent or caregiver is present, will be rescheduled and charged a no show fee.
We do ask that you try your best to not bring siblings or other children who do not have an appointment with us. We will do our best to book a time that works best for you and your family.
